The problem

Adding borders used to be
unnecessarily complicated.

Whatever editor you use, something as simple as a clean white border still takes too many steps and too much time.

Too complex

Photoshop / Lightroom / Affinity

Resize canvas, set background color, create a layer, export. Five steps for one clean border. For 50 images, that can eat half an afternoon. “The learning curve is completely out of proportion to the result.” – Maximilian R., customer

Too slow

Darkroom / Luminar Neo

Borders are possible, but there is no double border, no real batch workflow, no fast presets. “Luminar Neo is a nightmare for this, Pixelmator Pro still complicated.” – Lynton J., UK. For 30 images, you click through 30 dialogs.

Privacy risk

Web-Tools

Uploading images to third-party services. Often subscription-based, often watermarked, often with quality loss. Your images on someone else’s servers is not acceptable for professional work.

Too cumbersome

Capture One / Batch-Actions

Writing scripts, recording actions, maintaining export presets, and starting over for every new look. No live preview, no color harmony assistant, no simple double-border preset.

How it works

Three seconds.
Finished image.

No tutorial. No setup ritual. No learning curve. You instantly know what to do.

BorderTool Pro menu bar workflow – drag, preset, done
“Could become a standard tool for many photographers.”Appgefahren.de
1

Drag an image to the menu bar

Drag a file from Finder directly onto the menu bar icon, including HEIC files from iPhone. Or right-click → “Open with”. Drag & Drop

2

Load or adjust a preset

One keystroke loads your saved setup. Or press H for automatic color harmony, and the app chooses a matching border color for your image.

3

Save, copy or share

⌘S saves. ⌘C copies straight to the clipboard. Or share via AirDrop, iMessage or email, without another export detour.

Border types

From a clean edge
to a finished gallery look.

BorderTool Pro is not just a white edge. You combine borders, shapes and corners to fit the image: fast, repeatable and without Photoshop.

Single border

A clean border around your image. Minimal, fast and controlled, perfect for series, web galleries and social posts.

Double border

Control inner and outer border separately: width, color and visual weight can be set independently.

Rounded

Soft corners for modern presentation, portfolios and images that should feel calmer and more digital.

Beveled

Straight 45-degree edges for a distinctive look, especially strong with graphic images.

“I used to try creating borders with Affinity, but the learning curve is completely out of proportion to the result. BorderTool Pro is exactly the fast and uncomplicated solution I was missing. As a music producer, I have spent plenty of money on far less efficient plug-ins. With this tool, you do not have to think twice.”

"The ability to add two separate borders, corner styles, colours and then save them as presets is a game changer. The time savings alone was worth the upgrade, but it's also so easy to use. The support from Michael is second to none. I'd give it more stars if I could."

Pro tip from the developer

Use percentages for borders, not pixels.

A 3 % border looks just as proportional on a 1080 px Instagram export as it does on a 6000 px print-ready file. Pixel values feel too heavy on small exports and barely visible on high-resolution prints. Set it once in %, and it stays consistent across cameras and formats.

Pro tip: Lightroom & Capture One

Export as TIFF, not JPEG.

Export from Capture One or Lightroom as TIFF whenever quality matters: lossless, no compression. BorderTool Pro can convert to JPEG at the end, so JPEG compression happens only once. Exporting JPEG first and saving JPEG again means two compression passes, with visible artifacts.

Workflow integration

What C1 and Lightroom
do not do.

Neither Capture One nor Adobe Lightroom offers a native border tool. BorderTool Pro closes that gap and fits into your export workflow like an invisible plug-in. Set it up once, and it runs automatically after every export.

Capture One

No native borders in C1 – BorderTool Pro takes over

1

Open or create a Process Recipe template in Capture One.

2

In “Open With…” select BorderTool Pro.

3

Start the export. BorderTool Pro frames automatically. No manual retouching, no Photoshop detour.

Pro tip: With “Replace original”, the export immediately becomes the finished framed image, without manual moving or renaming.
Adobe Lightroom

No native borders in LR – BorderTool Pro closes the gap

1

Open the Export dialog in Lightroom (File → Export).

2

At the bottom: “After Export” → “Open in Other Application” → select BorderTool Pro.

3

Export. BorderTool Pro immediately applies your preset settings. No Photoshop, no extra app.

Pro tip: Load your preset first with ⌘1–⌘8. Every exported image instantly gets the right look, fully automatically.
Apple Photos · Extension

Borders directly inside Photos

1

Select a photo in Apple Photos → click “Edit”.

2

Top right “…” → Extensions → choose BorderTool Pro.

3

Configure the border → “Save Changes”. The original always stays intact.

Non-destructive: Apple Photos automatically preserves the original. Borders can be changed or removed at any time.
Finder · Right-click

Any file, anywhere

1

Select any image file or files in Finder.

2

Right-click → “Open with” → BorderTool Pro. Also works with multiple selection.

3

Or simply drag onto the menu bar icon. It starts immediately.

Tip: Drag HEIC/HEIF from iPhone directly, no pre-conversion required.

What might still hold you back

Honest answers.

The four most common concerns, and why they should not stop you.

I do not buy apps outside the App Store.

Understandable. BorderTool Pro is Apple-notarized, so macOS verifies the app automatically on first launch. No security scare, no Gatekeeper problem. Like an App Store app, just without Apple’s 30 % cut added to the price.

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything happens 100 % locally on your Mac. No servers, no cloud, no account. Your images never leave your computer: not on launch, not on export, not during updates.

Will I lose my originals?

By default, the app always creates a new file. “Replace original” is a deliberate option with a clear warning and Trash fallback. It only happens if you actively choose it.

Will it work with my camera and file format?

Very likely yes. Supported: JPG, PNG, TIFF, BMP, GIF, HEIC/HEIF, including iPhone photos directly. If your camera writes a standard format, it works. Or try it for free and check with your own files.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

Do I have to pay monthly?

No. BorderTool Pro is a one-time purchase for €39. No subscription trap, no monthly fees. All future updates are included.

Can I try it before buying?

Yes. Download the free trial and try the app with your own images: no account, no subscription risk.

Which macOS versions are supported?

macOS 11 (Big Sur) and newer. Universal Binary – native performance on Apple Silicon (M1–M4) and Intel.

How do I pay?

PayPal and credit card give instant access. Bank transfer is activated after payment is received, usually within 24 hours.

Is the app still being developed?

Actively. Many features came directly from community requests; some users wrote a second review after only four days because of new updates. Purchase includes all future updates.

Does batch processing work with subfolders?

Yes. The batch engine scans folders and subfolders recursively. Progress and ETA are shown directly in the menu bar icon.

Are EXIF data preserved?

Yes. BorderTool Pro processes images through ImageIO, preserving EXIF metadata and color profiles.

Is support included?

Yes, directly from the developer. Michael personally answers questions and feedback. You can see that in the reviews where customers explicitly mention the support.
